The Salzburg Festival takes place from the end of July to the end of August and features numerous concerts, morning performances, operas, operettas, plays and readings. The Salzburg Festival is the ultimate event. Famous artists perform in the city of Mozart and visitor numbers are rising continuously. The red carpet is rolled out in the Hofstallgasse in front of the concert halls and music is in the spotlight for one month. Highly skilled musicians, conductors and actors impress the audience at the different locations just a short walk from the Altstadthotel Wolf-Dietrich. The performance of “Jedermann” by Hugo von Hoffmannsthal, which has taken place in front of the breathtaking backdrop of Salzburg Cathedral since 1920, is an event which is famous the world over.

The Salzburg Easter Festival (Osterfestspiele) was founded by Herbert von Karajan in 1967 and is considered to be one of the most impressive artistic events in the world, which is mainly down to the Berliner Philharmonic’s brilliant performance. The Salzburg Whitsun Festival (Pfingstfestspiele) was also founded by Herbert von Karajan and has been known by this name since 1998. Under the artistic direction of Riccardo Muti the festival focuses on the Neapolitan baroque and early classical eras.
