Experience the city of Mozart through pink glasses
Holiday in Salzburg for LGBT+
Salzburg’s diversity is hard to put into words. Culture and history are palpable at every corner. Salzburg is also a shopping city, a dream-come-true for couples in love and hotspot for diverse nightlife. There’s something for every taste here,
also for homosexuals. Salzburg’s rich LGBT+ programme impresses visitors. Your holiday resort with gay-friendly and lesbian-friendly offerings: the four-star Altstadthotel Wolf-Dietrich.
Salzburg’s most beautiful locations
Salzburg is certainly anything but a strictly heterosexual city, even though the baroque splendour and Mozart’s cultural heritage might suggest otherwise. The numerous places and spots welcome all visitors with their colourful atmosphere. Various touristic attractions show Salzburg from an LGBT+ point of view. The museums and castle put their best foot forward, offering deep insights into city life way back when. The homosexual and heterosexual crowd mingles in and around the historic city centre between integration in action and, as they say at the friendly Café Mozartwinkel, the “best nut buns in the world”.
Queer city tours during your Salzburg LGBT+ holiday
Are you familiar with Salzburg’s gay history? The queer city tour by Austria Guides will introduce you to a special slant on the city of Mozart. The Alter Markt, for instance, used to be called Ludwig-Viktor Platz until 1927, named after the unloved, disciplinarily transferred Habsburg offspring. Wonder why the archduke had to go to the city of Mozart? Find out during the tour of Salzburg with LGBT+ focus and learn about other contemporary topics from a gay and lesbian perspective. The programme includes Georg Trakl’s domains, Wolf Dietrich’s former pleasure garden, trendy bars and the Stolpersteine (“stumbling blocks”) commemorating homosexual victims of the Nazi regime. The Salzburg LGBT+ city tour takes around two hours. The reception team will e happy to assist you with all reservations.
Salzburg’s nightlife
Various different queer and LGBT+-friendly bars are integral parts of the city’s equally colourful and diverse nightlife. Partying together and pretty spectacular themed events guarantee the best entertainment. The 3Stein in the Glockengasse has become a kind of second home for Salzburg’s colourful scene. Gays, lesbians and friends can discover the diversity of the nightlife seven days a week. The Mexxx Gaybar at the end of the Linzergasse is also open every day for dancing into the wee hours of the morning. The themed parties with elaborate decoration and appropriately dressed guests taking place every other month are legendary. Dark Eagle, the “men only” cruising bar in the Paracelsusstrasse, combines a snug bar atmosphere with playrooms. The city’s three designated gay-friendly bars are home to a mixed audience: the Bernstein-Bar on the Giselakai with disco and DJ sessions, the Daimlers (also on the Giselakai) with late night BBQ, and the tasteful Mayday Bar in Hangar-7 at the airport with international cocktails.
HOSI Salzburg
The non-profit association HOSI (Homosexual Initiative) Salzburg has been advocating equal rights and social acceptance for over 30 years. Volunteers ensure a safe atmosphere with information and personal counselling. Things are very casual every Wednesday from 7 pm and Friday/Saturday from 8 pm at the HOSI bar in the Gabelsbergerstrasse. Regular events such as the L7000 Friday, the transgender hangout and the fetish night offer something for everyone. The entire city is out and about during the quarterly HOSI Fest in the ARGEkultur.
