We constantly strive to offer you the best holiday experience in our rooms and suites. The last renovation of our Altstadthotel Wolf-Dietrich in beautiful Salzburg happened quite a while ago – the four Mozart suites were redesigned, and the indoor swimming pool fully renovated and enlarged in 2005-06. We have carried out several smaller renovations since, but a change in ownership in November 2019 heralded the time for major investment. We are delighted to show you what you can expect from your upcoming visit to our hotel.
The Wolf-Dietrich is now air-conditioned!
Large parts of the renovation remain hidden at first glance. As your safety is of the utmost importance to us, our first step was to invest in fire protection to meet all the new standards arising from the renovation,. Additionally, all rooms and public areas (except the breakfast room) are now air-conditioned. Following the summer of 2019, the second-warmest summer in recorded history, we made the decision to invest in air conditioning. The unit was lifted onto the hotel roof, (which had been opened), by crane. This air-conditioning unit is seven metres long and weighs a ton. As the Altstadthotel is situated in Altstadtzone 1 (old town zone 1), we had to meet very considerable requirements at much higher costs than if the building had been situated one street down, in zone 2. But it is also incredibly important to maintain Salzburg’s unique cityscape through strict construction restraints. Moreover, we have refurbished our heating system enabling us to save 39 tons of CO2 a year.
New design and old surprises
All public areas have been fully renovated and now shine in renewed splendour. The breakfast room and lobby now provide more space for our guests while showing off their completely new design. We also worked heavily on the reception area. Removing the ruby coloured carpet in the stairwell unearthed a special surprise – an old stone floor. All the adhesive residue was removed, preserving this historic floor. All the work was conducted by small, local companies, some of which we have been working with for many years.
Optimised living areas and a hotel fitness room
There is also something to report from the rooms. Not only are they air-conditioned, but all the rooms have also been newly designed or extensively done up. We used this opportunity to slightly reduce our capacity from 40 to 38 rooms. Consolidating two small single rooms and the two smallest standard double rooms has created two brand-new superior double rooms with a view in the direction of St. Sebastian’s Cemetery. Furthermore, we can now present to you our hotel fitness room in the cellar, formerly the site of one of the first organic restaurants in Austria. Modern Technogym training equipment, such as treadmill, crosstrainer, bike and weight bench, now provide the best foundation for physical training during your next holiday or business trip.
While planning this renovation we placed great emphasis on maintaining the “good spirit” of our house, bringing something fresher and more modern to these old walls without losing the classic style. We are absolutely convinced that we have succeeded and are already looking forward to welcoming you soon to our new, old house. Have you requested a non-binding holiday offer?
